Ask your own AI about every record

This site shows a small part of what is in the records. Connect Claude, ChatGPT or another AI assistant to all 161,865 of them and ask it anything in plain words. It answers from the records and links each figure to its source.

1. Connect your assistant

Claude

Add it once at claude.ai in a web browser, or in the Claude desktop app, signed in with your usual account. It then works in the iPhone and Android apps too. The phone apps cannot add it themselves.

Copy the address and open Claude

  1. Press the button above. It copies the address and opens Claude's Add custom connector box. (Or in Claude: Customize, then Connectors, then + Add, then Add custom connector.)
  2. For Name, type NL Ledger.
  3. In MCP server URL, paste the address and press Continue. If it asks about sign-in, choose No sign-in, then Add.
  4. Start a new chat. The first time Claude uses NL Ledger it may ask your permission; allow it.

The free plan allows one custom connector. On Team and Enterprise plans an owner adds it for the organization first.

Set it up at chatgpt.com in a web browser, on a Pro account or above. It does not work in the ChatGPT phone apps.

Copy the address and open ChatGPT's plugins page

  1. Press the button above. It copies the address and opens the plugins page. Press Add, then Create MCP App.
  2. Choose the icon you downloaded. For Name, type NL Ledger. For Description, type "Public spending records for Newfoundland and Labrador". Under Connection, choose Server URL and paste the address.
  3. Under Authentication, choose No authentication. Tick "I understand and want to continue", press Create, then press Connect.
  4. Start a new chat, type @NL Ledger and pick it from the list, or press Try in chat on the app's page. The app applies to the message it is attached to, so repeat this for each question.

On Pro accounts a custom app can read records but not change anything, which is all this one does.

Claude Code

Works in the terminal.

  1. Run this once. The server is then available in every Claude Code session in that folder (add --scope user for every folder).

The model runs on your own computer, so it needs to be one that handles tool calls well.

How to tell it is working: ask "Using NL Ledger, what are the largest snow clearing contracts?" The answer should name suppliers and amounts and link to government files. If it answers without links, the connector is not switched on for that chat. Try the same lookup here to compare.

Anything else that can use a remote MCP server (Model Context Protocol, the standard these assistants share) works the same way: give it the address above, choose streamable HTTP if asked, and no authentication.

2. Ask it something

A few questions that show what is in the records. Copy one, or open a new chat with it already typed in, then press send.

Connect first. The Ask links only open a chat; your assistant uses the records once the connector is added. In ChatGPT, also type @NL Ledger in each new chat and pick it from the list, or it will answer without the records.

The figures come from public records, gathered and combined by automated scripts, and have not been independently vetted. The server tells your assistant to cite a source for every figure. Open it before relying on an answer.
